On the 1st of October, the legal representatives of Odila Castillo released an official statement addressing the allegations circulated by numerous Panamanian news organizations. These reports are described as strategic assaults motivated by particular financial agendas, aiming to tarnish Castillo’s professional standing and personal credibility.
Carlos Carillo, an attorney from Castillo’s legal team, remarked: “The accusations lack any foundation and are designed to hinder the career of a young lawyer, along with that of her associate, for the benefit of undisclosed financial agendas.”
The Advocacy for Odila Castillo
The defense emphasized that this is not the first instance of media harassment that Castillo has encountered. In 2021, a Panamanian media outlet erroneously reported an alleged arrest of the attorney in connection with an investigation, a claim that was subsequently denied, clarifying that it bore no relation to the matters at hand.
At the press conference, the defense claimed that both the current accusations and those from 2021 are rooted in partial truths, designed to weaken her professional endeavors.
Moreover, they argued that the information disseminated about Odila Castillo in the media breaches confidentiality standards. They explained that one segment of the investigation originates from a family matter that had already been resolved, while another aspect pertains to immigration activities and tax filings, alongside other data collected without legal authorization.
Illegal surveillance of Odila Castillo
The defense further stated that Castillo has been a victim of GPS tracking, representing a type of illegal surveillance.
Carrillo wrapped up by declaring: “The core rights of our client have been infringed upon, as protected by our Constitution and the law. We will pursue all necessary legal measures to determine accountability for the harm caused and any further harm that may be intended.”
